ASLO 2025 Aquatic Sciences Meeting

OOI Data Labs Sessions at ASLO 2025

The OOI Data Labs community had a strong presence at the 2025 ASLO Aquatic Sciences Meeting in Charlotte, NC—marking our first exciting foray into the broader aquatic sciences community. While OOI Data Labs project has regularly participated in Ocean Sciences Meetings in the past, ASLO 2025 provided a unique opportunity to connect with freshwater and estuarine science educators and researchers, alongside those from the ocean sciences.

On March 29th, Denise Bristol (Hillsborough Community College – SouthShore) and Anna Pfeiffer-Herbert (Stockton University) chaired two well-attended sessions focused on building data literacy skills in the next generation of aquatic and ocean scientists. Presenters shared a range of approaches for developing students’ data and science skills, including efforts aimed at non-majors and early undergraduates. The sessions sparked thoughtful discussion and highlighted shared challenges and opportunities across disciplines.

You can check out the full abstracts and presenters’ slides (if available) below, for each presentation contributed by an OOI Data Labs community members.
